(More customer reviews)The only thing I agree with the 1 other reviewer here is this heli can be purchased elsewhere for about $115. I cant explain why Amazon is so far off on this. Anyway I don't recommend this one at all! It has 2 significant problems that combined add up to a lot of frustration and expense.
The first and foremost is that this heli is incredibly fragile. It's not just that the fuselage will crack on a hard landing, it's that major parts will shatter requiring ordering and waiting days to fly again. The fuselage itself is so fragile that holding the heli in your hand too tight will cause it to crack! I'm not kidding! The makers are laughing all the way to the bank at the people who pay for this thing over and over again on parts. I've spent $40 on parts and will not spend another cent. When the last part breaks I can't fix with hot glue the whole thing goes in the trash.
The second problem is that the controls are overly complicated and this heli is not ready to fly out of the box. Not only do you have to choose between 3 flight modes, you have to choose which way you want each of the 4 directional joystick movements to go. For example: if you want the heli to go forward by pressing the right joystick forward, (duh) you have to choose stick mode II and AILE mode Rev. If the LCD screen display isn't confusing enough you may (read probably) have to level the swash plate, by hand. On YouTube you'll find a real-time series on how to to this, over an hour of video! Amazing. The manual is little help. For programming the joysticks it says things like, "Press left/right to select the desired option" without giving any clue what either option will result in. Trust me, you will crash this thing several times, breaking many parts, before you will achieve stable hovering flight!
I urge you to read the `positive' reviews on fan blogs very carefully! Even those who claim to love this heli admit theirs is held together by hot glue and suggest to new owners they buy spare parts in anticipation of breakage! Hello!? There are other brands out there! If you do read the blogs you'll at least pick up some tips on how to save money repairing this thing. For example: the main rotors are so fragile the fan blogs recommend buying Esky Big Lama #B blades!
Contrast this to my Syma s022 which I have hard crashed many times and the worst that's happened is some scratches on the leading edge of the rotors! OK it's a 3 channel but why cant the Madhawk folks use the same durable plastic?
Bottom line with this heli is you have to decide if you are a pilot or a mechanic. If you're a mechanic then by all means buy this. You'll spend many hours in the basement with your jewelers screw driver set.
