(More customer reviews)My 12 year old son received two other remote controlled helicopters a couple of years ago and I was never able to fly either one of them with confidence. The problem with most other toy helicopters is that they are only two channels. That means you can lift off and you can yaw for direction, but that's it. The heli has to be perfectly balanced to fly forward and not go off into a random direction into the furniture. And if you crash, the geometry of the heli is affected that stable flight is nearly impossible after that.
Those shortcomings are gone with the Air Hogs Helix 360. This is the remote controlled helicopter you have been waiting for.
First of all, it's 4 channels, so you get thrust, for up and down, you also have yaw for rotation, but you also get pitch for back and forth and you get roll for left and right. In other words you can fly this heli in any direction you choose.
Also, this heli has a built in gyro for stabilization. You just take off and it hovers without you having to do anything. And then the controls are responsive and it just goes exactly where you tell it to. The learning curve is steep for the beginner, but my 12 year old son was flying this almost immediately with success.
Lastly it is very sturdy. Although it comes with two spare tail rotors, I can't imagine damaging the rotors. I've crashed it multiple times and it flies straight and level immediately with no visible damage.
Flying time is impressive. It probably takes about 15 to 20 minutes to charge, but you probably get 10 minutes of flying time out of that. Compared to other helis you get a good amount of time in the air compared to charging.
If you've been disappointed with the helis that are sold in the toy stores this one will not disappoint. The only drawback is that you will immediately have to buy one for yourself. Or have extras on hand to fly while the others are charging.
