The build was very straight forward. The manual provided a clear build sequence that worked well. The overall fit was excellent. The only real issue I had was the rudder servo. I used a DS890G that came with the G770 Gyro. The servo was slightly larger than the bracket opening, so I had to use my table router to enlarge the bracket (I read somewhere that a Trex 600 rudder servo bracket might be a better fit).
I took my time to build, but it only took 4 sessions of about 1.5 to 2 hours each. The ESP Super Pro Combo arrived Monday afternoon, and first flight was Saturday morning. You will also need to know how to solder the battery connectors. It was either Deans or Traxxas connectors (I selected Traxxas due to ease of disconnect).
Final setup was also a snap. I used the Dx6i Transmitter from the Blade 400 and an AR6200 Receiver. Having a good apriori understanding of the parameters and settings, and how to optimize them is essential. This was the only real area where the manual was lacking, however, the knowledge from the B400 was enough to get through it.
Moving from the B400 to the 500 was a bit scary at first but after a couple of weeks, I am very comfortable with the heli. This is definitely not a first RC heli for a beginner. My heli sequence was Blade CX2, Walkera 4G1B (POS), Blade 400, Trex 500. Each platform helped to develop flying skills, rebuild skills/process/tools (after crashes), knowledge of operation/optimization, and confidence to move to the next step.
