(More customer reviews)Wow. These toy helicopters have really come a long way in the past couple of years. I have purchased several models since the craze began but this new generation with built-in gyros are the most stable yet.
This particular copter is extremely light weight and nimble in the air. You won't be flying this outdoors because a slight wind will whisk it away but everyone knows these things are intended for indoor fun anyway. I was extremely impressed with the precise control you have over this copter. Previous models that I have owned were basically only good for going up and down and maybe you could nudge them in a forward direction if you were lucky. This copter is a breeze to maneuver and the trim control on the remote allows for making minute adjustments very easily. There is also a turbo button that supposedly boosts the speed of the copter but I haven't played with that yet. I find the default speed to be good enough for the fairly low ceilings in my place (wouldn't want to boost and send the copter crashing).
Another great feature is the "no snap back" elevation controls. This lets you set a height with the left joystick and then take your finger off the control entirely. Your copter will stay at the set height and you can just worry about the direction controls from there. Other models I have played with have a spring in the left stick which makes keeping an exact elevation a chore.
One thing to note is that when you first turn it on the copter might not respond right away. There seems to be a bit of "boot up" time between the remote and copter. Probably by design so that people don't get a face full of whirling blades when they switch on their copter. After a few seconds though everything will kick in and you will be ready to fly.
The seller notes that colors may vary from the one pictured. Indeed the box shows that there are 5 different color variations. The seller just sends them out at random. All the designs look pretty cool though so I guess it isn't a big deal. Mine was white btw.
Overall I am very happy with my new toy. The learning curve for flying is so low that you will be making precision runs within minutes of opening the box. The only somewhat negative experience I had was the screw from the battery compartment on the remote was missing when I took it out of the box. I thought that the manufacturer had neglected to include it but I later found it on the floor. Guess it dropped out without me seeing it. No harm no foul but it would have been better if the screw had been screwed into the remote from the start.
Great little toy. Great potential stocking stuffer.
